Board Report - January

January Board Report

During its January 9 meeting, Cantor Ruth Berman-Harris introduced the meeting by discussing her recent trip to Israel, Argentina, and New York City. As to the Rabbi search process, Board president Stacey Sharp announced that she has appointed Sean Surfas as the Interim Rabbi Search Committee Chair, and announced the members of that committee. Andrea Mark described efforts to evaluate and revise our shul’s organizational chart. Treasurer Jack Singer presented a summary report of actual versus budgeted figures for the first and second quarters of the current fiscal year, reflecting a budget surplus of approximately $49,536 during that period. Singer also presented a spreadsheet with projections for the current quarter.

President Sharp provided history and background regarding the PJTC L’Dor v Dor Foundation, including how the shul’s bylaws govern membership of the foundation’s board of directors. A two-thirds vote of the PJTC board is required to appoint a foundation board member for a three year term. Sharp explained that the shul has not complied with this policy at times in the past. Sharp proposed the following members of the foundation board, for specified terms: Andrea Mark as VP; Jack Singer as Treasurer; Faith Segal and Alan Whitman as board members; and Sandy Hartford as president. Motions were made to adopt these appointments, and the motions passed.

President Sharp solicited congregational feedback as part of the start of the process of renegotiating a potential new contract with Cantor Berman-Harris. Finally, Chaplain Claire Gorfinkel explained that a bereavement support group is forming.
