JEDI: Jewish Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

All of Us Belong
JEDI are core Jewish values, rooted in teachings that all are created in the image of the Divine. At PJTC, this means respecting the dignity of each person who comes through the door.

Diversity Makes Us Richer
The JEDI Committee promotes and supports connection and programming that honors the rich diversity of Jewish expression, identity and experience. “Come As you Are,” (pjtc.net/aboutpjtc) is an inclusion statement that expresses PJTC’s guiding principle of the “open tent.” Crafted by a diverse group of PJTC’ers, it was the birth of the JEDI committee. JEDI celebrates our rich cultural tapestry while identifying and working to eliminate barriers (physical and otherwise) that limit participation in our community.

We Are All Teachers. We Are All Learners.
Some of JEDI’s past programs have included listening sessions and panel discussions about invisible and visible disabilities; Jewish addiction awareness and resources for healing; lived experiences of LGBTQ+ Jews; Jewish texts about inclusion of multi-faith families, Jews of Color, and all aspects of Jewish identity.

Upcoming
JEDI is honored to have received the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism (USCJ) grant for “Embracing Community in Challenging Times.” The project addresses discomfort that may occur with being in crowded spaces due to COVID, as well as exploring concerns about safety and security in Jewish spaces amid rising antisemitism.

Also in the works are a showing and discussion of the film Crip Camp, about teens with disabilities, an author event featuring books by Jews of Color, and a series that explores Jewish texts about equity, diversity and inclusion and how they guide us today.
