Board Report - October

October Board Report

During its September 19 meeting, following the resignation of Joseph Johnson as board member and treasurer, the board appointed Adrianna Quinn as a board member-at-large and Jack Singer as Johnson's successor. The board expressed gratitude for Johnson's board service. New treasurer Jack Singer provided a financial update, explaining recent collections and anticipated future reports, as well as an ongoing financial audit of the synagogue, and plans to consolidate and streamline our banking processes.

Bryan Jick, co-chair of the Guardians Committee, provided an overview of the program’s history at our shul, and led a discussion of the following Guardians-related motions, all of which passed:

1. Guardian membership term will be the temple fiscal year.
2. A signed pledge to become a Guardian will be required, with a deadline for return (30 days after end of Yom Kippur), which allows their names to go on Guardian plaque. Late submissions are welcome, but those members do not get added to the plaque.
3. This fiscal year only – invite members to Guardians whose annual appeals meet Guardian giving level.
4. No other donations count towards Guardian membership.

Next, Susan Auerbach, head of our shul's Welcome Circle, reported on progress transitioning the Afghan refugee family to our community. She discussed that both daughters have been given full scholarships to New Horizon school in Pasadena. She also showed portions of a Powerpoint presentation showing milestones over the seven months since the family arrived in Pasadena.

Rabbi John Carrier and Cantor Ruth Berman-Harris provided updates on the upcoming High Holy Day services. Levy provided an update on logistics of ticketing and check-in. Callahan talked about the upcoming First Aid training and related ushering plans.
