Engagement Corner - August

Dear PJTC Family,

I can't believe it's already time to prepare for the High Holy Days! The office is abuzz and I can't wait to share some of the new programming we'll be having, while also bringing back old favorites. Here's a snapshot of what you can look forward to:

NEW!

  • Shema Circles: monthly discussion groups, each comprised of 8-10 people, starting during Elul but running September-May. If you want a space to explore secular topics through a Jewish lens, to meet new congregants and get to know them better over the course of the year, this series will be a great gift you can give yourself in the new year.
  • High Holy Days FAQ with Rabbi Carrier: daily videos on our YouTube channel during the month of Elul answers all your High Holy Days frequently asked questions.
  • Shirah—High Holy Days Edition. Cantor Ruth will lead 3 Shirah-style song sessions in September with holiday melodies to fill your spirits in time for Rosh Hashanah.
  • Sunday Center—we're bringing back the "Center" in PJTC in a big way on Sunday mornings while the kiddos are at religious school. Look for weekly workouts (Zumba, pilates, interval training, runs), two new classes with Rabbi Carrier, and more.
  • Young family/LBSRS BYO meal in the PJTC sukkah, the Tuesday evening of Sukkot

RETURNING!

  • Selichot—the week before Rosh Hashanah, a service to prepare us for the High Holy Days.
  • Tashlich and Rosh Hashanah family service at the LA Arboretum, and this year we are adding an adult learning session with Rabbi Carrier
  • Yom Kippur family-friendly outdoor service, back by popular demand after we piloted this last year
  • Jr. Congregation/youth services and babysitting is BACK for the High Holy Days this year! We know it was tough without it the past two years and are working on updating safety protocols to ensure we continue to slow the spread while giving parents options. We're also keeping the outdoor "Prayground" available during the High Holy Days season.
  • Let us help you procure your first Sukkah, and USY can help you build it
  • Host other congregants in your sukkah during the week of Sukkot
  • Join the entire PJTC community for a Friday evening BYO dinner in the PJTC Sukkah
  • Join the entire PJTC community for our Simchat Torah Party, complete with free dinner, professional DJ and tons of dancing

There's so much, I'm sure I'm forgetting even more exciting things that we are working on. But I hope this list gives you a taste of what's to come, and encourages you to check your inboxes as more information becomes available. If you have any questions about PJTC programs, or if there is anything I can do to help you best connect with this community, please reach out to me at Melissa@pjtc.net.
