Board Report - July

During the June 28 board meeting, Budget Committee Chair Jack Singer presented the proposed budget for fiscal year 2022-23. Board president Stacey Sharp provided related background and explanation as to the expected deficit for the 2021-22 fiscal year. After lengthy discussion, the board passed the budget.

The board also passed the Ritual Committee's request to sell an extra Torah scroll owned by PJTC to the Reform Temple of Laguna Woods, for $12,000, with the funds to be used only for Torah scroll, cover, crown, etc., maintenance and cleaning.

Following a financial update by treasurer Joseph Johnson, and a briefing by Executive Director Beryl Strauss, the board accepted an offer from ADT to upgrade our fire alarm/notification system to code, which will ultimately be funded by a grant of federal funds from the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, part of the 2021 California State Nonprofit Security Grant Program.

Sharp announced that Jan Pais is being appointed as chair of the Membership Committee, and Cathy Krasner as chair of the newly-created special dues committee. Fischer provided an update on USY’s year, including awards received for our USY chapter. The board thanked Fischer for her excellent work leading our youth. Finally, Sharp lauded the exceptional and longstanding contributions of longtime board member and past president Matt Ober, who recently stepped down from the board.
