B'nai Mitzvah : April

April brings us two reasons to celebrate: the B'nai Mitzvah of Cyrus Garroway and of Isaac Johnson. Get to know them below and mark your calendar to come together as a community to support them on their big weekends!

Bar Mitzvah of Cyrus Garroway

Cyrus Garroway, son of Rabbi Joshua and Kristine Garroway, will be called to the Torah on April 9 as a Bar Mitzvah, He is a seventh grader at McKinley Middle School in Pasadena.  He lives with his parents and two younger brothers. Cyrus loves animals, and while his parents will not allow him to have a dog, he has the next best thing: the world’s cutest guinea pig named Winter.

In his spare time, Cyrus enjoys sports, both on the field and off. He roots for the Pittsburgh Steelers and LA Dodgers. He has played baseball for Pasadena Little League through elementary school and is now in the Junior League. While he gladly plays whatever position is needed, his favorite place is on the mound, pitching. When he is not occupied with baseball, he is an avid video gamer and enjoys connecting with old friends and meeting new ones.

Cyrus has worked this last year helping to put together the history museum for PJTC’s 100th anniversary.

The Bar Mitzvah of Isaac Johnson

Isaac is the son of Joseph and Rebecca Johnson and younger brother to Alexa. He is in 7th grade at Rosemont Middle School in La Crescenta, where he runs on the cross country and track teams. Isaac’s true passion is computers and most days you can find him in his room, coding in several different languages, creating bots and sharing technology tips on Reddit. In first grade, Isaac started Scouting and now is an active member of Troop 288 in La Crescenta. He has earned 23 merit badges to date and his favorites were small-boat sailing, programming and welding. As a Scout, he participates in numerous community service projects and has a love for sustainability and the outdoors. Isaac also enjoys reading, tennis lessons, zip-lining and camping.
