Social Justice Committee

In July we will begin to transition from pandemic isolation to in-person events and meetings. Zoom may continue to be a platform for some meetings, due to the convenience factor, but the interactions that take place in a live setting are both invigorating and stimulating of new ideas. We may poll our members and prospective members this month to confirm this plan for emerging. Please watch for our very short poll. We anticipate our first in-person regular meeting at PJTC on July 25 at 10:00 AM in Wohlmann Hall.  We hope that bagels and lox are not far behind!

The work of the Social Justice Committee continues. At the July 11 Zoom meeting (10:00 AM, Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89492111158) there will be an update on the initiatives to repurpose CalTrans houses for the homeless and at-risk residents of the area, as well as other plans in the works to address this issue.

The rising threat of anti-Semitism will also be on the agenda as we seek ways to understand and confront this menace. Before we tackle this issue, we will do some collective and individual research and reflection through break-out and small group meetings.

The High Holy Days are fast approaching, and we will discuss ways to incorporate the visions of social justice into our community experiences during this time of reflection and anticipation.
