June’s Torah readings begin with Parashat Shelach, when twelve scouts came back from the land of Canaan with stories that terrified the Israelites so much that they would rather head back to Egypt and slavery.
Stepping into the new and unknown can be varying degrees of scary…like when you rode your first roller coaster, moved away from home, or experienced a global pandemic. The biggest mistake we often make is viewing the future through that lens of fear, instead of recognizing that we come equipped with the strength and resources we need to succeed if we proceed with courage and hope.
Discussion Starter: Think about a time when fear kept (or almost kept) you from trying something new. What strengths do you have inside you that could help you succeed in that situation?
