Social Justice Committee

The members of the Social Justice Committee, like most of our fellow congregants at PJTC, have been looking for ways to respond to the conflict between Israel and Hamas and the tragic consequences of that violence within Israel itself. A significant contingent of SJC participated as PJTC delegates to the J Street conference in mid-April. At our May 16th meeting we had a discussion that enabled our members to exchange views on this still-unfolding set of events. Ellen Pais provided a letter from her daughter who made aliya. The letter expressed the terror, the emotional pain and societal disruption of this war. We are sponsoring the Social Hall on June 3 at 7:30 PM in conjunction with Adult Education to hear more about the experience on the ground for both Jewish and Palestinian Israelis during this war.

On June 10, the Social Hall will present the program featuring Louise Derman-Sparks, who recently received an honorary doctorate from Bank Street College of Education, a premier institution known for graduate programs preparing teachers. She will discuss her celebrated work in anti-bias education and the new documentary for which she is a prime consultant. Please watch the film, streaming free to the PJTC audience at: Reflecting on Anti-bias Education in Action: The Early Years - Anti-Bias Leaders in Early Childhood Education (antibiasleadersece.com)

The “Conversation with George Gascon” that was held May 11 was viewed by a large audience of PJTC members and others. The event is available on our SJC You Tube channel at: https://youtu.be/9XSKjO1lGpc.

Our next SJC Meeting is on June 6 at 10:00 AM, the 77th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy. Wars leave deep and indelible scars, and I hope that our memories can teach us how to achieve reconciliation and peace. Please Zoom in and join us at:
