Community News: Chay'ay Olam & Torah Fund

CHAY'AY OLAM AWARD: Every year PJTC Sisterhood presents the Chay’ay Olam award. This prestigious honor goes to a woman who is active in Sisterhood, at PJTC, and her community. Since we first adopted this award from Women’s League, we have honored more than thirty-five incredible women.

This year, the Chay’ay Olam honor will go to Louise Wannier. Louise moved to Pasadena with her family from England in 1964.  As a girl she attended Sunday and Hebrew school classes.  She was confirmed in ninth grade with Rabbi Galpert and was active with BBG. Years later after college, Louise was drawn back to PJTC initially to join the Tuesday meditation group led by Rabbi Grater. She completed her adult Bat Mitzvah and began to assist with the planning of Rosh Chodesh programs. She has helped to lead and expand PJTC Jewish Mindfulness Meditation. Louise completed the IJS’ two-year Jewish Mindfulness Meditation Program as well as the Kivvun and Amukah programs.

Louise is married to Michael Burns and is an entrepreneur, artist, and loves cycling. She is now a Safta with five grandchildren and four adult married children.

At this time, we do not have a date set for our Chay'ay Olam event. It may be virtual or, if it’s safe, we will have it in person.  We are looking forward to honoring Louise very soon and will keep you all updated.
