A discussion with Tamar Manasseh, subject of the documentary film, 'They Ain't Ready for Me'

SPECIAL PJTC FILM SCREENING, today only, May 4, available all day.

Sisterhood is delighted to co-sponsor with SJC (Social Justice Committee) a discussion with Tamar Manasseh, joining us from her home in Chicago (3-4 PM PST). Tamar is an African American rabbinical student, mother, and activist. She is pursuing her rabbinic ordination at the Israelite Academy, the Hebrew Israelite rabbinical school, and will be the first woman to graduate from the school.

The documentary film ‘They Ain’t Ready for Me’ chronicles student rabbi Tamar Manasseh, the community leader who established the program "Mothers against gang violence" (MASK), to create a presence on the street corners of south-side Chicago and provide a warm, nourishing, and educationally sustaining approach to re-establishing connections among neighbors under highly challenging conditions. She speaks of her work as emanating from the Jewish tradition of Tikkun Olam. The film by filmmaker Brad Rothschild has been reviewed by Skirball as well as the Times of Israel and is in early release.
