Men's Club: Service to Community
On Sunday May 23, 2021, Men’s Club will be honoring Marcia Alper and Terry Tornek, two of our community’s stalwarts, with our Service to Community Award. This will be the event of the pandemic year. Some have asked, why are we calling this a service to community versus a community service award? Great question. Community service typically means volunteer work, hosting events to support charitable events, donating time for nonprofits, etc. Service to community recognizes that many people not only volunteer their time but might also be in a paid position that services special needs, charities, municipalities, nonprofits and so forth. While that may be their “job.” many do it as a passion as well. For this year and going forward. Men’s Club wanted to be in a position to equally recognize those who “volunteer” and those may receive compensation but are equally passionate about their “service” to their community.
Our esteemed recipients for 2021 are Marcia Alper (long time PJTC member, past PJTC president, past Federation President) and Terry Tornek, (long time PJTC member and past mayor of Pasadena)\. Their accomplishments and their exceptional personal journeys will be feted by US Congresswoman Judy Chu, State Senator Anthony Portantino, State Assembly Member Chris Holden, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, and many others.
Even though separated by the pandemic, we’ll each be able to still feast and toast our honorees with a catered Mediterranean-themed meal (wine, too) that will be cheerfully delivered to your door (geographically limited to the cities of Monrovia, Arcadia, Pasadena, Altadena, San Marino, South Pasadena and La Canada) by Men’s Club Board members, or may be picked up at PJTC. The evening will start with a Town Hall meeting featuring US Congressman Adam Schiff, with an update on the 28th congressional district.
