Unraveling the wonders of the human brain
The human brain is the most sophisticated machine in the universe. Accordingly, its products are almost miraculous: thoughts, feelings, sensations, dreams, perceptions and decisions. How do these come about? Prof. Liad Mudrik, a cognitive neuroscientist, describes the wonders of the human brain: its structure, the way it functions, and how it gives rise to our mental world. The talk highlights the way human beings think and behave. How many of our decisions are based on unconscious factors, of which we are completely unaware? How do our knowledge and previous experience affect the way we perceive the world? And what are the biological imperatives which shape our behavior?

Prof. Mudrik is an alumnus of the interdisciplinary program for outstanding students. She received two PhD degrees, in cognitive neuroscience (TAU & HUJI) and in philosophy (TAU). The latter was awarded with the Robert J. Glushko prize for outstanding dissertations in cognitive science. She then continued to work as a postdoctoral fellow at the division of biology at the California Institute of Technology, and joined the school of psychological sciences as a faculty member in 2015. She is a member of the Israel Young Academy of Sciences. She runs the Liad Mudrik Lab at Tel Aviv University. The lab investigates high-level cognition, both at the behavioral and the neural level.
