About Us

USY stands for United Synagogue Youth. Our local chapter is a thriving program located at Pasadena Jewish Temple & Center (PJTC). Over the past few years we have grown from a handful of dedicated teens to now over sixty young members!  In the Spring of 2015, the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism awarded PJTC USY "Most Improved Chapter" in the entire Pacific Southwest Region, while our youth President Amelia Dreier received the coveted "USYer of the Year" award.USY welcomes Jewish youth in 7th-12th grades, while Kadima welcomes 4th-6th graders.  As long as registration forms are complete, any Jewish young person may join--they need not be a member of PJTC to become a member of USY.  Local USY programming is planned by our USY Teen Board, and overseen by Youth Director Melissa Levy and volunteer Youth Advisor Aaren Heller. Kadima programming is planned with the help of our Kadima Komittee, a group of younger leaders interested in further developing their leadership skills while planning programs for their even-younger counterparts. Members of our youth programs also have the opportunity to attend regional and international USY and Kadima programming--meeting peers from the valley next door and from the other side of the world. In our our teen members' words, USY and Kadima provide:
A place for people to further their Jewish education and friendships. Our mission is to be accepting to everyone. A fun way to connect the youth to their Jewish community through social, religious, and social action aspect A safe environment in which people can learn about themselves both spiritually and socially. A fun way to escape every day activities (Jewishly) and to hang out with cool people.  It's also a fun way to connect with the Jewish community. A haven for diverse Jewish teens to come together, collaborate and grow as people and as community leaders.
